REC Solar ProTrust 25-Year Warranty Playbook: Product, Power & Labor RMA Claims
How to enforce REC Solar’s industry-leading 25-year ProTrust warranty when your original REC Certified Solar Professional goes out of business: proving heterojunction (HJT) output degradation, shattered glass, or bypass-diode failure.
1. Factory Diagnostic & Direct RMA Submission Protocol
Step 1 — Verify Your REC ProTrust Registration Certificate or Serial Numbers: Every REC Alpha Pure / TwinPeak panel has a unique barcode serial number laminated underneath the front glass AND printed on the backsheet label. If your installer registered your system, locate your "REC ProTrust Warranty Certificate" PDF (which provides 25 years of Product, Performance, AND Labor coverage). Even without a ProTrust certificate, all REC panels carry a 20-year product and 25-year linear performance warranty.
Step 2 — Gather the 4 Mandatory Proof Photos for an REC Module RMA: REC Americas requires 4 clear photos to approve a panel replacement without a site visit from an REC engineer: (1) Full photo of the affected panel on the roof; (2) Close-up photo of the serial number barcode under the glass; (3) Close-up of the defect (delamination, burnt junction box, snail trails, or Enphase/SolarEdge panel-level graph showing <80% output relative to adjacent panels); and (4) Multimeter photo showing Open-Circuit Voltage (Voc) in full sun.
Step 3 — Diagnose a Blown Bypass Diode Using the "One-Third / Two-Thirds Voc Rule": REC TwinPeak and Alpha panels are split into internal half-cut cell sections protected by 3 schottky bypass diodes in the split junction boxes. If your multimeter reads exactly 66% (e.g., 32V instead of 48V Voc on an Alpha Pure-R) or 33% of rated Voc in full sunlight, one internal bypass diode has shorted—triggering an automatic 100% REC warranty approval!
Step 4 — Choose Between Free Replacement Module Shipment or Cash Value Settlement: Because solar panel dimensions and wattages evolve every 18–24 months (e.g., REC400AA -> REC420AA Pure-R -> REC460AA Pure-RX), if an exact physical frame match is no longer manufactured, REC can either ship a compatible current-generation REC Alpha panel or issue a direct cash settlement equal to the replacement cost plus the ProTrust labor allowance.
2. Electrical Telemetry & Voltage Proof Sheet

REC Solar EMEA GmbH / REC Americas LLC Warranty & RMA FAQ
My REC Certified Installer went bankrupt. Can another REC Certified Installer claim the 25-year ProTrust labor reimbursement for me?
Yes! The REC ProTrust 25-year warranty is registered to your physical solar installation address and module serial numbers, not tied to the survival of the original installing company. Any active REC Certified Solar Professional (searchable at recgroup.com/en-us/find-installer) can take over your service call and collect the REC ProTrust labor reimbursement.
Note on REC Alpha Pure-R (59.7V Voc) Microinverter Compatibility: What if an installer put the wrong microinverter on my REC Pure-R panels?
REC Alpha Pure-R and Pure-RX panels use an 80-cell / 88-cell high-voltage architecture (59.7V–65.1V Voc) that REQUIRES Enphase IQ8X microinverters! If an incompetent installer paired REC Pure-R panels with standard IQ8+ or IQ8M microinverters (which max out at 60V DC input), the microinverters will trip on Cold-Morning DC Overvoltage—demand that the installer or lender swap the microinverters to IQ8X immediately.
Can I transfer my REC ProTrust 25-year warranty to the buyer when I sell my house?
Yes, the REC ProTrust warranty is 100% transferable to subsequent homeowners for the remaining balance of the 25-year term at zero transfer fee—simply hand the new buyer your original REC ProTrust Warranty Certificate PDF at closing.
