1. V2H Electrical Engineering, Transfer Switching & Solar AC/DC Coupling

STAGE 1

Step 1 — Understand the Massive Scale of a 205 kWh Ultium Battery Pack: The Chevy Silverado EV RST/Max Range and GMC Sierra EV Denali carry a staggering 205 kWh usable battery pack—more energy than FIFTEEN Tesla Powerwall 3s combined! Even smaller GM Ultium models (Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Cadillac LYRIQ) carry 85 kWh to 102 kWh and support the exact same GM Energy V2H Enablement Kit.

STAGE 2

Step 2 — Three-Component Hardware Topology (PowerShift Charger + Inverter + Home Hub): When the grid fails, the GM Energy Home Hub (200A Microgrid Interconnect Device) disconnects from the utility meter, the small wall-mounted Dark Start battery wakes up the 9.6kW Bi-Directional DC-to-AC Inverter, and the PowerShift Charger pulls 400V DC over the CCS1 pins from the Ultium vehicle.

STAGE 3

Step 3 — 7.2kW / 10.2kW "PowerBase" Bed Outlet Alternative on Silverado EV & Sierra EV: Just like the F-150 Lightning, the Silverado EV and Sierra EV include a 240V 30A NEMA L14-30R outlet in the truck bed providing up to 7.2 kW (out of 10.2 kW total offboard power). You can connect this 240V 30A bed outlet to a home transfer switch or an EG4 Chargeverter 48V solar battery charger for under $900 instead of buying the $7,299 V2H wall bundle!

STAGE 4

Step 4 — Pairing GM Energy V2H With Existing Rooftop Solar Arrays: The GM Energy Home Hub includes a dedicated AC-coupled solar breaker input allowing existing Enphase or string solar inverters (up to 7.6 kW–9.6 kW AC) to operate inside the off-grid microgrid and recharge your Ultium vehicle during multi-week grid blackouts.

V2H Bi-Directional Charging & Solar FAQ

How long can a 205 kWh Chevy Silverado EV or GMC Sierra EV power a house during a hurricane or ice storm?

At an average critical-load consumption of 15 kWh/day (refrigerators, freezers, well pump, furnace blower, LED lighting, Wi-Fi, and mini-split heat pump), reserving 15% in the truck leaves 174 kWh of usable energy—enough to power a home for 11 to 14 days WITH ZERO SUNSHINE, or indefinitely when paired with rooftop solar!

Which GM electric vehicles are compatible with the GM Energy V2H Bundle?

All 2024+ Ultium-platform vehicles equipped with bidirectional charging capability (standard or optional depending on trim), including the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Chevrolet Blazer EV, Chevrolet Equinox EV, Cadillac LYRIQ, Cadillac ESCALADE IQ, and GMC HUMMER EV (with software update).

Can I add GM’s stationary "GM Energy PowerBank" (10.6 kWh / 17.7 kWh LFP) to the same Home Hub?

Yes—the GM Energy Home Hub and 9.6kW inverter are modularly designed so you can attach a stationary GM Energy PowerBank (built with LFP cells) directly to the same DC bus to capture daily rooftop solar when your truck is parked away from home.
