Bi-Directional V2H / V2G Blueprint

Tesla Cybertruck Powershare (11.5kW V2H) + Gateway 3V & Solar Integration Blueprint

Why Tesla Cybertruck Powershare is the cleanest AC bi-directional V2H architecture on the market: how the Cybertruck outputs 11.5kW of 240V 60Hz AC directly over a standard NACS J3400 cable into a Universal Wall Connector, and how it syncs with existing Powerwalls and rooftop solar.

1. V2H Electrical Engineering, Transfer Switching & Solar AC/DC Coupling

STAGE 1

Step 1 — Understand Why Cybertruck Powershare Costs 60% Less Than DC V2H Systems: Unlike Ford and GM (which require an expensive external $4,000+ wall-mounted DC-to-AC inverter because the truck outputs raw 400V DC), Tesla built the 11.5kW (48A @ 240V) bi-directional inverter directly inside the Cybertruck’s onboard Power Conversion System (PCS)! This means the cable from your garage wall to the Cybertruck carries standard 240V split-phase AC in both directions.

STAGE 2

Step 2 — If You Already Own a Tesla Powerwall (Powerwall 2, Powerwall+, or Powerwall 3), You Need ZERO New Gateway Hardware: Because your home already has a Tesla Backup Gateway 2 (or Backup Switch) isolating your main service panel from the utility grid, unlocking 11.5kW Cybertruck Powershare only requires installing a $580–$650 Tesla Universal Wall Connector wired to a 60A 2-pole breaker inside your backed-up load panel and a low-voltage RS-485 communication wire!

STAGE 3

Step 3 — If You Do NOT Own a Powerwall, Install the Tesla Powershare Gateway (Gateway 3V) + Universal Wall Connector: For homes without a stationary Powerwall, the Tesla Powershare Home Backup Bundle includes the 200A service-entrance Powershare Gateway (Gateway 3V) and Universal Wall Connector. Wire the Universal Wall Connector with 6 AWG Cu THHN on a 60A breaker plus a 4-conductor twisted-pair communication cable between the Wall Connector and Gateway 3V.

STAGE 4

Step 4 — Seamless Off-Grid Solar AC-Coupling & Frequency-Shift Control: During a grid blackout, the Cybertruck and Powershare Gateway form a 240V 60Hz island microgrid that allows existing rooftop Tesla Solar Inverters or Enphase microinverters to continue generating solar power and recharging the Cybertruck during the day, using standard IEEE 1547 frequency-watt curtailment (60.0Hz -> 65.0Hz) when the truck reaches your target SOC!

V2H Bi-Directional Charging & Solar FAQ

Is there a short blackout pause when the grid fails and Cybertruck Powershare takes over (without a stationary Powerwall)?

Yes: if your home only has a Cybertruck and Universal Wall Connector (with no stationary Powerwall on the wall), there is a brief ~10–15 second transfer pause when the grid drops while the Powershare Gateway opens its 200A motorized contactor and commands the Cybertruck to close its AC backfeed relays. If you also have a Tesla Powerwall on the wall, the transition is 100% seamless (<20 milliseconds).

Can I also use the 240V 40A (9.6kW) NEMA 14-50 outlet inside the Cybertruck vault bed with a manual generator interlock?

Yes! Every Cybertruck features a built-in 240V 40A (9.6kW) NEMA 14-50R outlet in the cargo bed powered by Powershare Outlets. That outlet can feed a standard 50A CS6375 generator inlet box and manual breaker interlock on any electrical panel for under $600!

Can I configure the minimum battery reserve % in the Tesla App so the house never drains my Cybertruck below driving range?

Yes—inside the Tesla App under Powershare Settings, you can drag the "Backup Discharge Limit" slider (e.g., 20% or 30% minimum SOC) so the Cybertruck automatically stops powering the house while preserving 60–100 miles of driving range.
