Michigan solar calculator
Live production from NLR (formerly NREL) PVWatts V8. Michigan REPLACED traditional net metering with the Distributed Generation (DG) inflow/outflow program in 2018 — it is NOT 1:1. Self-consumed solar offsets full retail (~16.4¢/kWh on DTE D1-DG, modeled here). Excess sent to the grid (outflow) is credited BELOW retail — DTE pays ~7.75¢/kWh, the power-supply component, as confirmed by the Michigan PSC. Consumers Energy uses seasonal/time-of-day outflow rates (not separately modeled). Michigan has NO state income tax credit and NO SREC market. Sales tax status is DISPUTED — sources conflict on whether the 6% applies to residential solar; we don't assume an exemption (verify with the Department of Treasury). Property tax is exempt 100% on added value (systems ≤150 kW). Size to ≤110% of annual use, ≤20 kW residential. A few rural co-ops still offer true 1:1 — exception cases. Defaults: south-facing roof mount, 20° tilt, 14% losses.
Try (Detroit), (Grand Rapids), (Lansing) — any valid US ZIP for this state also works.
