EG4 18kPV & 6000XP Working Modes Guide: Self-Consumption, AC Charge, Peak Shaving & Grid Sell-Back
The EG4 18kPV is the most configurable hybrid inverter in North America—which also means its 30+ settings in the EG4 Monitor Center can intimidate first-time owners. Here is the plain-English cheat sheet to configuring Self-Consumption, Charge First, AC Charge, Forced Discharge, and Peak Shaving.
📲 Step-by-Step App & Firmware Configuration Walkthrough
Default Mode (Self-Consumption): When none of the special time-window overrides (AC Charge, Charge First, Forced Discharge) are active, the 18kPV runs in Self-Consumption automatically: Solar powers house loads first -> Surplus solar charges the LFP battery -> Once battery is 100%, surplus exports to the grid (if Grid Sell Back is enabled). When solar drops in the evening, the battery powers the house down to your "On-Grid Cut-Off SoC %" (set to 20%).
Setting "On-Grid Cut-Off SoC" vs "Off-Grid Cut-Off SoC": Under Discharge Control, set On-Grid Cut-Off to 20%–25% and Off-Grid Cut-Off to 10%. That way, normal nightly usage stops at 20%, automatically saving the remaining 10%–20% exclusively for power outages!
Using "Forced Discharge" for NEM 3.0 / Peak Export Arbitrage: Enable Forced Discharge and set Window 1 from 17:00 to 20:00 (5 PM–8 PM) at 8,000W down to 25% SoC to dump battery power during utility peak rates.
Using "Charge First (PV)": Enable Charge First between 08:00 and 15:00 if you want 100% of solar power to fill the battery before feeding non-backed-up main panel loads.

Frequently Asked Questions: EG4 18kPV Working Modes Guide
Why is my EG4 18kPV not discharging the battery to power my house at night?
Check three settings in EG4 Monitor: (1) Make sure "AC Charge" or "Charge First" time windows are not accidentally set to 00:00–23:59 (which locks the battery in charge-only standby all night!), (2) Verify current Battery SoC is higher than your "On-Grid Cut-Off SoC %", and (3) Ensure "Power Backup / Seamless EPS" is enabled.
