Alaska solar calculator
Live production from NLR (formerly NREL) PVWatts V8. Alaska's net metering rules (3 AAC 50.930) credit exports at the utility's non-firm power rate (Small Facility Power Purchase Rate / avoided cost) — BELOW retail. This calculator models GVEA's $0.13323/kWh non-firm rate (effective June 1, 2026); Chugach (Anchorage), MEA (Mat-Su), AEL&P (Juneau), and Homer Electric follow the same structure at their own rates. Self-consumption still offsets full retail (~$0.234). Credits NEVER EXPIRE — important in Alaska, where summer overproduction banks against the dark winter. Alaska has no state income tax (so no state solar credit) and no statewide sales tax (some municipalities have local sales tax). Property tax exempt 100% on added value. Expect extreme seasonality in the monthly production chart — that's normal for high latitudes. Defaults: south-facing roof mount, 20° tilt, 14% losses.
Try (Anchorage), (Fairbanks), (Juneau) — any valid US ZIP for this state also works.
